about

Nicole Carbotte (she/her) is a Montreal-based flutist and educator. Passionate about classical and contemporary music, Nicole loves playing beloved traditional repertoire written for flute as well as plunging into the world of new music. She actively performs in orchestra concerts, chamber recitals, as well as with Syncronisms, her flute and clarinet duo.

As a performer, Nicole has performed in many different contexts. From playing flute and piccolo with Les Fusiliers de Mont Royal to premiering and recording new works by up and coming composers, she has experienced a bit of everything. She was named top woodwind player in her home province of Manitoba after winning the top prize in the provincial competition in 2017 and 2018. She was also a semi-finalist in Winnipeg’s well known McLellan Competition in 2019. Nicole has also performed for some of the world’s leading flutists, such as Emmanuel Pahud, Denis Bouriakov, Marina Paccinini, Lorna McGhee, as well as many others.

Nicole teaches flute in various high schools and day camps in the Montreal Area. A firm believer that a great musician comes from a great pedagogue - Nicole dedicates a lot of her time teaching one-on-one lessons as well as group classes and sectionals. She also teaches flute and piano privately in her home studio in quartier Villeray.

Nicole received a bachelors degree in flute performance from the University of Manitoba and a masters degree in orchestral performance from McGill University. Past teachers include Layla Roberts, Albert Brouwer and Joanna G’Froerer.
